Happy Book Birthday, Fly!

Africa has a birthmark in the shape of her name

that leads the way,

and she’s ready to show the world

exactly what she’s made of!

In FLY - the poetic, empowering picture book debut of Brittany J. Thurman (Simon and Schuster/Caitlyn Dlouhy Books) - main character Africa sets her sights on entering a double Dutch competition, even though she’s never tried the jump-rope game.

With a strong and open heart, Africa learns moves from her friends, which help her soar to the sky, just as she knew she would. Gorgeously illustrated by Anna Cunha, FLY is a story about big dreams and believing in what you can be.

Are you ready to jump, fly, double Dutch to the sky?

Let’s join Africa and the birds,

up high!

Welcome to the parade,

FLY!

Oh, and Brittany! Can you share a fun fact about FLY?

Africa’s grandmother was originally her mom. I grew up in a multigenerational household, and elders have held a huge impact on my life. So, when my editor Caitlyn brought up this brilliant idea, it felt so right.

The winner will be chosen at random and announced Jan. 18, 2021.

If you’ve entered, you’re all set! But don’t leave just yet…
