Brittany gives thanks, and a critique!

Picture book writers don’t get much room for acknowledgments in their books, but we have so many people to thank. It’s been a week since FLY - the debut picture book of Troupe member Brittany J. Thurman, illustrated by Anna Cunha (Simon and Schuster/Caitlyn Dlouhy Books) - arrived on bookshelves…

Illustration by Anne Appert, Leah Hong and Neesha Hudson

… and it’s time to say THANKS!

Here’s a message from Troupe member Brittany J. Thurman:

So many wonderful minds went into the creation of Fly. Thank you to my agent, Marietta Zacker, for always believing in my words. To my editor, Caitlyn Dlouhy who valued Africa’s story and saw the potential in a character who followed her dreams. Thank you to Anna Cunha for your stunning work. Illustrations so graceful they dance across each spread. I cannot express enough how in awe I am each time I turn the page. Thank you to those in my very first critique group, Betsy Fitzpatrick, Kelly Conway, and so many others who witnessed the early beginnings of Fly and knew it would soar. To the librarians at the Carnegie Library and the many children of the library, daycares and schools I read and sang songs to during story time, you each helped Fly land a place on the shelf. To my family, my own grandmother who flies by being a force for us all. Lastly, thank you to the me I used to be, to the little girl who knew to always reach for what she desired.
